Happy June and Happy Father’s Day to all of you dads who are doing the good work. This month in Revue we have some wonderful Portraits of Guatemala throughout the pages. There are some great photographers participating in our monthly photo contests and we thank them.
Kerstin Sabene brings us some positive news with her story Using Street Art to Empower at-risk youth in Guatemala. In a country traumatized by poverty, violence and migration, it has become ever more challenging for Guatemalan youth to find good paying jobs or opportunities. Sabene has found some people that are proving that “art can literally change people’s live.”
In her article Restoration and Conservation in La Antigua Guatemala, Hadazul Cruz takes us on a path from 1934, when Verle Linconln Annis arrived in Guatemala to study the architecture in La Antigua, through 1969 and the creation of the “Ley Protectora de la Antigua Guatemala” (protective law for the city of Antigua, and the CONSEJO).
Our Chef-at-large Amalia Moreno-Damgaard shares with us her recipe for Carne Asada with Chirmol in celebration of Churrasco: A Good Guatemalan BBQ for Father’s Day. Summertime calls for outdoor cooking and delicious food and what a better way to celebrate Father’s Day than with a scrumptious Guatemalan churrasco (BBQ).
